Manchester: A city of rich heritage and sharp contrasts in the industrial North West of England
The conspicuous depth of history is evident almost everywhere you look in Manchester. The apparent modernity that is stated by the new towers, has been thrust on the city, is superficial. Sleek glass, polished stone and metal are really only skin deep: Part of the continuum, but actually a veneer, a false fingernail, laminated on top of the rich heritage of hard working people, risk takers and capital working together to create wealth for some, a living for many, and sadly, alienation for a few.
Blows have been struck by the disenfranchised, the poor and tragically, by those bent on using terror to make their point, but they have barely marked the fabric of this great, statuesque, monumental, epic city, and it's people.
